Nerdland’s Discord gets its own year in review
A quiet scrape of a year of messages becomes per-channel statistics and awards for the most-reacted posts.
By Yannic Fréson, DeveloperFiled from Belgium

This project came about very spontaneously. As I was going through my Spotify Wrapped I immediately hit up my good friend Thomas Loriers and explained the idea to him.
He did the visual representation of the data while I wrote the script to scrape all the messages. I used Node.js to fetch every message in the chosen channels using Discord’s own API. I opted for this approach instead of a bot, which would have spoiled the surprise by showing up in the users list.
The codebase has two parts: one for scraping all messages, and one for processing that data into a CSV used to generate the graphics.
For the final part we made the Nerdland logo out of the nicknames of everyone who sent a message that year.
